Yorkshire Wedding Photography – Capturing Laughter

girls having fun

So today I’m starting a new feature on my blog! Each week I’m going to be writing a little bit about certain aspects of my work – from how I capture certain emotions, to how I use light, and things that I love and excite me about shooting, and there will be posts on my favourite parts of weddings and how I approach different parts of the day. So these blogs are there for anyone who’s looking to learn a bit more about me and how I work, or just a place to look at some lovely photographs!

Laughter is the greatest Medicine

So I’m starting off with a great one – this week’s blog is focusing on laughter. Now here is a subject that everyone should enjoy – This has got to be one of my absolute favourite things to capture. Laughter. Rip-roaring, side-splitting laughter. I love HUGE belly laughs. heads thrown backwards and tears in your eyes, the kind of laughs where you’re gasping for air and clutching your sides – luckily weddings are usually happy (and boozey!) occasions, so I do get to see quite a lot of this. There’s also no doubt that I will be laughing behind the camera whilst shooting, as laughter is definitely infectious.

Capturing Laughter on Camera

So laughter is often spontaneous, but a lot of the time you can see it coming – capturing people laughing comes from reading a room, and the groups in it, which is the daft table chugging back the wine that are reminiscing and giggling together, or the friends sat with the bride and groom, pointing out how the Groom fumbled his lines – a lot of the time laughter comes from people’s reactions to others – such as when someone is showing off their incredible finger-waggling Dad-dances, pointing your lens at the crowd watching is a sure fire way to get some stellar reaction shots. Saying this, a lot of the time it’s from being in the right place at the right time and not being afraid to quickly point and shoot towards the sound of laughter when you hear it!

Some of my Best Laughter Moments

So one of my favourite parts of the day is definitely the confetti. Couples just walk through the shrouds of colour laughing – the looks of pure enjoyment are brilliant. There’s always a couple of mischievous guests who throw confetti in people’s eyes, which leads to funny faces, and the looks couples exchange between each other and their guests are just unadultered fun. People’s reactions during funny speeches, are always brilliant, and you can’t miss people laughing at other guests dance moves! Lastly don’t forget the way that some couples just LOOK at each other and start that intoxicatingly lovely humour between each other that no-one else gets!
