a real squeezey hug

Holdsworth House in the beautiful Calder Valley is where I was lucky enough to photography Liz & Nigel’s alternative wedding celebrations. Being a West Yorkshire Wedding Photographer, capturing a wedding in my hometown of Halifax was a huge pleasure. West Yorkshire is home to a vast landscapes and award winning market towns. Its vibrant, breathtaking scenery and natural environment make this a sought-after location for a ceremony. The historic four star hotel Holdsworth House is nestled in a stunning location. Halifax is a town full of culture partially because it’s home to the Piece Hall, Square Chapel and Wainhouse Tower.

Hebden Bridge for Relaxed Morning Preparations

I travelled down the road to Hebden Bridge on the morning of their wedding. This relaxed, friendly, quaint village was the perfect start to this day. The morning preparations were laid-back. We drank coffee and I nipped round with my camera so as not to disturb the morning rituals. Liz put on her dress, pearls and shoes with her bridesmaid. Her Dad beamed with joy and pride as he saw his daughter for the first time ready to get married.

A Lovely Sunny Day for a Ceremony at Spring Hall in Halifax

Spring Hall Registry Office is a wonderful location for a wedding. Nigel was busy greeting guests whilst Liz was making her way in the car. They had a lovely, intimate ceremony in front of just their closest family and friends. Outside in the sunshine we threw confetti and I snapped some reportage photography, alongside some group images. Being framed by the lovely Yorkshire countryside meant we couldn’t complain!

Wedding Reception at Holdsworth House, a Grade II Listed Building

Secluded Landscape Gardens surround this Grade 2 listed Jacobean building. The newlyweds and their friends and family arrived to reception drinks and canapes. As I captured some candid imagery, the sun shone down on this romantic outdoor courtyard. The stunning lawns were filled with guests sipping bubbly and chatting away. The bride and groom and I made sure to go on a walk for some portraits.

Handfasting Ceremony at Southwood

Liz and Nigel, now husband and wife, had a much larger ceremony and celebration that weekend. At Southwood in Halifax, they had a handfasting ritual that involved the entire family. All friends and familt looked on as they made promises to each other. The evening was then filled with music and celebrations. As they were both musicians, they’d organised a jam session! Both of them got up and played music which was brilliant!

Please have a look through a few of their images – it was such an amazing day!
