The Venue Barkisland Halifax Wedding Photography

couple laugh at confetti

Part of me wishes I’d known at the time that Claire & Tim’s wedding would be one of only two weddings that I would shoot before the Coronavirus pandemic shut down the country. It breaks my heart to see so many couples having to postpone the day they have spent weeks, months, years planning – my own wedding in June 2020 included. But supporting the NHS and people all around our country and the world is so vital at the moment. Would I have done anything differently whilst shooting Claire & Tim’s wedding? No. Apart from appreciate it more! The day was bloody brilliant from start to finish and I’m so happy with how the photos have developed. So much love and laughter and happy smiling faces. It feels very surreal looking back now though as I am REALLY badly craving the feeling of shooting a wedding! I didn’t realise quite how much I loved my job until these past couple of weeks when I’m not allowed to do it! With so much uncertainty around us, Claire and Tim’s wedding is EXACTLY what you need in your eye-holes right now. Grab a brew, stick your feet up and have a scroll through their images. I defy you not to smile!

A Laid-Back Laughter-Filled Wedding Day in Halifax

The Venue Barkisland was host to Claire and Tim’s Wedding back in January. This former textile mill has been converted into a stunning woodland-surrounded Wedding Venue. It sits next to a lake and really is a beautiful venue in my hometown of Halifax. Surrounded by Yorkshire countryside and home to the Piece Hall, Shibden Hall, Holdsworth House, Eureka and the famed Anne Lister, Halifax is a fantastic place to call home. From start to finish Claire and Tim’s day was full of laughter. I don’t think I’ve ever smiled and laughed so much at a wedding! This laid back couple and their family and friends clearly have so much genuine love for each other that it’s infectious.

Let’s Get Ready for the Wedding!

What better way to start the day off than with these ladies at Bridal Prep?! Sitting in the conservatory, the girls chatted and exchanged presents. There was a few tears and definitely a lot of laughing. It was so nice to see all the personal necklaces that Claire had got for all her bridesmaids. Upstairs, the bride-to-be and her entourage got into their dresses and if anyone knows how to make an entrance it’s Claire! With the father-of-the-bride and her girls waiting at the bottom of the stairs, she came down in her gorgeous dress to applause before I scooted off to their venue.

Exposed Brickwork, Wooden Floors & Industrial Vibes for the Ceremony

The Bowers Suite at The Venue is a perfect setting for an industrial-feel ceremony. The exposed brickwork, wooden floors and big windows give it such an authentic feel. The ceremony was like every other part of their day. Full of feel-good energy and laughter. After their vows and ring exchange they had their first kiss and went outside to greet all their guests. After lots of hugs and kisses from family and friends, they went outside for confetti and a few pictures.

Food and Speeches that Nearly Finished Me Off!

So I’ve been to a lot of weddings and heard a lot of very very good speeches. But with all of Claire and Tim’s family and friends really pulled it out of the bag. They were all creative, theatrical story-tellers and had me in absolute stitches. I get so invested in every wedding that I shoot and genuinely really love hearing stories about the couple and this was no exception. Bravo to the speech makers at this wedding, you really nailed it! Check out some of the reaction photos below and you will get a feel for them! Not least when Claire ended up hiding under the table from a particularly embarrassing story told by one of her bridesmaids that had tears of laughter rolling down cheeks all around the room!

What a Day – But the Evening has Only Just Begun!

So if Claire, Tim and their guests know how to do anything, it’s party! They had a live band made up of friends from the music industry and some great DJs too. The atmosphere was electric and the dancing and drinking went on into the night. I already knew a few people there, but I came away knowing loads. What a day, I hope you enjoy looking through the images as much as I did!
